I made an Ice Bucket Cake for my husband’s birthday. In this post I’ll show you how I made the fake ice cubes that I placed on top of the cake. It’s pretty easy to make them and you only need two ingredients: gelatine and Sprite or any clear soda.
Ingredients
- 1/2 can (180 ml) of Sprite or any clear soda
- 10 g gelatine powder + 100 ml (0.4 cup) water
- a food storage container or a pan – I used a 12.5 cm x 12.5 cm (5’’ x 5’’) container
Directions
First, soften the gelatine in water for 10 minutes.
In the meantime, pour your Sprite or any clear soda into a mixing bowl.
Then, melt the softened gelatine in the microwave a few seconds until all the granules are dissolved.
Add a bit of Sprite over the melted gelatine and mix it to bring the gelatine to room temperature.
Then, pour this over the Sprite and mix well to combine.
Pour the mixture into a container.
Place it into the refrigerator until it’s completely set. It may take about 2-4 hours for the mixture to set properly.
Once the mixture has completely set, remove the container from the refrigerator and use a knife to cut the gelatine mixture into small cube-like shapes.
You can then use the fake ice cubes to decorate your cakes.
Be gentle when you handle them as they can break easily.
Also, make sure make sure to cut the gelatine mixture into small pieces that are appropriate for use as fake ice cubes. If the cubes are too big, you won’t be able to easily place them on top of each other on the cake as the weight of the ones on top might squish the ones on the bottom.
