As mentioned in my other Soccer-Themed Birthday Party posts, this summer we had two parties with this theme for my boys. In this post, I’ll share the soccer-themed party games we had plus many other ideas. By incorporating these soccer-themed games into the party, you’ll create a dynamic and enjoyable experience for the young soccer fans, ensuring that the birthday celebration is a huge success.

Soccer Toss Game Banner
Set up a soccer-themed toss game area. You can purchase a banner or you can create one using a large piece of fabric or cardboard. Cut out holes in the shape of soccer goals, each assigned different point values. Guests can take turns tossing soccer balls (soft foam balls or bean bags) through the holes to score points. You can award small prizes to those who reach specific point targets.
Pull a Mystery String Game
My older son wanted to play a super fun game for his birthday – Pull a Mystery String Game. We played this game at our New Years’ Eve party and everyone had so much fun! So we made this game a soccer-themed one by using (mostly) soccer-themed prizes.
To set up the game, you need to have a prize for each kid. Then, attach a long string to each prize and thread those strings through the centre of a plate or cup in which you previously cut a hole.
To play the game, each person has to pull a string out of the centre of the plate. The kids take turns pulling one string at a time. The lucky player gets to keep whichever prize moves when they pull the string.
This is a fantastic way to distribute party favors or gifts to the guests.
As prizes we had: soccer-themed key chains with Neymar, soccer ball pencil holders, Rubik cubes, a lego cup, slap wristband watches, metal yo-yos and 3 mystery prizes (a Tim Hortons gift card, a movie ticket, a bag full of candy) in the 3 green drawstring backpacks.
We tried not to have all party favours/prizes with a soccer theme just in case some kids (or girls) were not into soccer.
Soccer Ball Piñata Game
Incorporate a chocolate soccer ball piñata into a fun game. Fill it with candies, soccer-themed stickers, and other small treats for the kids to enjoy. You can see this tutorial if you want to make one: How to Make Chocolate Soccer Ball Piñatas.
Our birthday boys got to break the chocolate soccer ball piñata. However, you can blindfold each participant and have them take turns trying to break the piñata.
You can also use a regular piñata instead of a chocolate one if you prefer.
Other Soccer-Themed Game Ideas
Here are some more fun game ideas to add to the festivities:
1. Penalty Shootout: Set up a mini soccer goal and have a penalty shootout competition. Guests take turns as the goalie and the shooter. To make it more challenging, blindfold the shooter for added fun. Keep score to determine the penalty shootout champion.
2. Soccer Relay Race: Divide the kids into teams and organize a relay race with a soccer twist. For example, kids can dribble a soccer ball through a set of cones, pass it to the next player, and then run back to tag the next teammate.
3. Soccer Obstacle Course: Create a soccer-themed obstacle course with various challenges, such as weaving through cones, kicking soccer balls into targets, and performing soccer skills like juggling. Time each participant, and the one with the fastest completion time wins a prize.
4. Soccer Scavenger Hunt: Hide soccer-themed items or soccer ball tokens around the party area, and provide the kids with a list of clues or a map to find them. The kids can then exchange the tokens for party favors or small prizes.
5. Soccer-themed Bingo: Create soccer-themed bingo cards with pictures or terms related to soccer. The kids can mark off the squares as they spot the items or hear the terms during the party.
6. Soccer Ball Bowling: Use soccer balls as bowling balls and set up empty plastic bottles or soccer ball pins as the pins. The kids can take turns rolling the soccer balls to knock down the pins.
7. Soccer-themed Trivia: Host a soccer-themed trivia game with questions about famous soccer players, teams, and soccer history. The kids can compete individually or in teams to test their soccer knowledge.
