If you are in the mood for a fancy and delicious variation of the classic brownies, try these marbled brownies with cream cheese. The cream cheese is a great addition and it helps temper the rich chocolate flavour and sweetness of the brownies. A nice and quick dessert that will definitely impress your guests 😉 !

Servings: 24 brownies
Ingredients:
- 225 g semisweet chocolate
- 75 g unsalted butter, diced
- 4 eggs
- 300 g (1 ½ cups) sugar
- 150 g (1 ¼ cups) all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 2 tsp vanilla essence
- 115 g walnuts, chopped
For the plain mixture:
- 50 g unsalted butter, softened
- 250 g cream cheese
- 6 Tbsp sugar
- 2 eggs
- 25 g (1/4 cup) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp vanilla essence
You also need a 33 x 23 cm (13 x 9 inch) baking pan lightly greased and lined with parchment paper.
Directions:
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
Melt the chocolate and butter in a bowl set over a pan of simmering water. Stir constantly and when the chocolate is melted set aside to cool.
Beat the egg whites until light and fluffy. Add the sugar and beat until blended. Add the egg yolks. In a small bowl mix the flour, salt and baking powder. Combine the dry ingredients with the beaten eggs.
Stir in the cooled chocolate mixture and then add the vanilla essence and chopped walnuts.
Set aside 8 generous tablespoons of the chocolate mixture.
For the plain mixture, cream the butter and cream cheese. Beat in the sugar, then the eggs, flour and vanilla.
Spread the chocolate mixture (except the 8 tablespoons) in the prepared pan. Pour over the plain mixture. Drop spoonfuls of the reserved chocolate mixture.
With a spatula swirl the mixtures to marble them. Bake for 45 minutes until just set. Cut into squares when cool.
