Agua de Valencia is a refreshing and popular cocktail from Valencia, Spain. It’s made with a combination of orange juice, cava (Spanish sparkling wine), vodka, and gin.
Agua de Valencia is a versatile cocktail, and you can adjust the ingredients according to your taste. Some variations include adding a splash of orange liqueur (such as Cointreau or Triple Sec) for extra sweetness or substituting the cava with champagne or prosecco.
Ingredients (2 cocktails)
- 240 ml (1 cup) freshly squeezed orange juice
- 240 ml (1 cup) cava (Spanish sparkling wine); or substitute this with champagne or prosecco
- 60 ml (1/4 cup) vodka
- 60 ml (1/4 cup) gin
- 1 Tbsp sugar (optional, adjust to taste)
- ice cubes
- orange peel or slices for garnish (optional)
Directions
Add a handful of ice cubes to a pitcher of cocktail shaker. Add the freshly squeezed orange juice, vodka, gin, and sugar (if desired). Stir well until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is chilled a bit.
Make a twist out of orange peel to garnish your drink. Here’s an article that explains in detail how to make citrus twists. Or, watch this video to see how I made it:
Use the orange twist to garnish the rim of the serving glasses.
Alternatively, you can also use just orange slices to garnish the rim. Take some orange slices and just cut a small slit in each slice so you can place it on the glass rim.
Add a handful of ice cubes into each glass and pour the Agua de Valencia mixture and cava over the ice.
Stir gently. Serve and enjoy!
