Easter is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than by dyeing some eggs? While there are many ways to dye eggs, have you ever tried using rice? Dyeing eggs with rice is a simple and fun technique that creates a unique and speckled effect on the shells. It’s also a great activity to do with kids, as they will love shaking the eggs in the rice to create different patterns and colours. In this blog post, we’ll show you how to dye eggs with rice using simple materials you probably already have at home. So, grab your eggs, rice, and food colouring, and let’s get started on this fun Easter craft!
Ingredients/Materials
- white eggs
- food colouring (liquid)
- rice, 200 g (1 cup) per colour
- ziplock bags
Directions
In a large pot, add cold water and your eggs and bring to a boil over medium heat. Boil the eggs for 5-6 minutes.
Pour some white rice into a plastic zipper bag.
Add a few drops of food colouring to the bag, depending on how intense you want the colour to be.
You can also use multiple colours if desired. I used blue and red to make the purple eggs.
Close the bag and gently shake it to distribute the colour throughout the rice.
Open the bag and place one egg inside.
Close the bag and gently shake it to coat the egg evenly with the rice.
Repeat the process with additional eggs and different colours, using a separate bag for each colour.
Once the eggs are completely coated with the rice, carefully remove them from the bags and place them on a plate or tray to dry.
Allow the eggs to dry completely before handling them.
The rice will create a speckled effect on the eggs, giving them a unique and colourful appearance.
Enjoy your homemade rice-dyed Easter eggs!
