Bear Pancakes
First up, we have these cute Teddy Bear Pancakes. Here’s what you’ll need:
- pancake batter
- red food coloring
- a squeeze bottle or piping bag
- a 3.8 cm (1.5 inch) hear-shaped cookie cutter
- blueberries
- banana slices
To start, prepare your pancake batter. Mix in red food colouring in half of the batter. Heat a griddle or frying pan on medium heat. Brush a bit of oil and scoop the batter onto the griddle to form the pancakes. For the bear paws, place some batter in the squeeze bottle or piping bag and pipe mini pancakes on your griddle. Cook the pancakes on each side until they turn slightly brown.
Use the heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the heart shapes as seen in the picture. You might need to use a sharp paring knife to fully cut the hearts if the cookie cutter edges are not too sharp. Then switch the heart cutouts by placing a red heart in the regular white pancake and a white heart in the red pancake.
Arrange all the mini pancakes and big pancakes on a serving platter to form the bear’s body. Make the eyes out of blueberries, the ears out of banana slices and the nose out of a banana slice and a blueberry.
Heart Pancakes
Next up, we have these cute and classic Heart Pancakes. These are easy to make and only require a few simple ingredients. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Pancake batter
- Red food coloring
- a 6.5 cm (2.5 inch) heart-shaped cookie cutter
To start, prepare your pancake batter. Mix in red food colouring in half of the batter. Heat a griddle or frying pan on medium heat. Brush a bit of oil and scoop the batter onto the griddle to form the pancakes. Cook the pancakes on each side until they turn slightly brown.
Use the heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the heart shapes. You might need to use a sharp paring knife to fully cut the hearts if the cookie cutter edges are not too sharp. Then switch the heart cutouts by placing a red heart in the regular white pancake and a white heart in the red pancake.
Sprinkle some powdered sugar on top or serve them with your favourite toppings.
Grilled Watermelon Pancakes
Lastly, if you’re up for trying something new and different, try these Grilled Watermelon Pancakes topped with honey and whipped cream. Here’s what you’ll need:
- pancake batter
- red food coloring (optional)
- heart-shaped cookie cutters – I used various cutter sizes: 11 cm (4.5 inches), 9 cm (3.5 inches), 6 cm (2.5 inches) and 4 cm (1.5 inches)
- honey to drizzle
- whipped cream
To begin, cut a small watermelon in slices that are 2 cm (3/4 inch) thick. Use heart-shaped cookie cutters (2 cm (3/4 inch) tall) to cut out hearts from each watermelon slice.
You need at least 2 cutter sizes. The bigger one to cut out the 1st watermelon heart and the smaller one to cut out another heart inside (where you will pour the pancake batter).
Then, make the pancake batter. Split your batter in two. In half of the batter add red gel food colouring and slowly mix it in.
Place the watermelon cutouts on the heated grill pan that’s brushed with a bit of oil. Scoop the pancake batter inside the heart cutout. Fill it only 3/4 up as it will expand.
I like using a grill pan as the grill marks are pretty and also the excess watermelon juices drain away and you won’t end up with a soggy pancake.
Cook them on each side until they turn slightly brown.
Then, drizzle honey on top, top them with whipped cream and enjoy!
Make some watermelon skewers out of the small leftover watermelon hearts.
So there you have it! Three fun and easy pancake recipes to help you spread the love this Valentine’s Day. Whether you’re whipping up a romantic breakfast in bed or surprising your kids with a fun and festive meal, these heart pancakes and bear pancakes are sure to bring a smile to everyone’s face. Happy Valentine’s Day!
