Create a spooktacular pizza for your next gathering with these adorable cheese ghosts! Follow this step-by-step tutorial to make a delicious and festive Cheese Ghost Pizza that’s sure to impress.
Ingredients
- Pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- Pizza sauce
- Shredded cheese (mozzarella works best) as well as pepperoni or ham and black olive slices (toppings that are darker in colour to create a bit of contrast when placing the cheese ghosts on top)
- Cheese slices (such as provolone / a firm ripened cheese) for the ghosts; I bought a round block of cheese and cut thicker slices (thicker than 0.5 cm or 1/5 inch) – it’s recommended to use thicker slices so that the cheese ghosts maintain their shapes
- Ghost-shaped cookie cutter; mine was 3.35” x 2.9″ (8.51cm x 7.37cm)
- Round piping tip (or any small round tool) for the eyes and mouth
Directions
Preheat your oven according to the instructions for your pizza dough, typically around 425°F (220°C).
Roll out your pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness. Transfer it to a pizza stone or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Spread an even layer of pizza sauce over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border around the edges for the crust.
Generously sprinkle shredded cheese over the sauce. Ensure that the cheese covers the entire pizza. Add your toppings (pepperoni or ham and black olives), creating a base for your cheese ghosts.
Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
While the pizza is baking, use a ghost-shaped cookie cutter to cut out ghost shapes from your cheese slices. Aim for enough ghosts to cover the surface of your pizza.
Take a round piping tip or any small round tool to create eyes and mouths on the cheese ghosts:
- Use the larger end of the piping tip to make the mouths.
- Use the smaller end for the eyes.
If you have thicker cheese slices (thicker than 0.5 cm or 1/5 inch) from which you cut out the ghosts, you can place the cheese ghosts on top of the pizza 30 seconds before removing the pizza from the oven. If your slices are thin then place the cheese ghosts on the pizza right after removing it from the oven. That way the cheese ghosts will not fully melt and will maintain their shape.
Allow it to cool for a couple of minutes before slicing the pizza.
This was the end result! Note that I placed my cheese ghosts on the pizza 30 seconds before removing it from the oven. I used a thinner cheese slice for the ghost on the right so you can see that its shape is not as good as for the other three ghosts.
Now you have a spooky and tasty treat perfect for any Halloween celebration or just for fun! Enjoy your Cheese Ghost Pizza!
