I have already started thinking of my baking projects for this holiday season and guess what I have on my list… cakes, cakes and more cakes : -)! Since I need to make some decorations ahead of time I wanted to try a few versions of Christmas Tree Toppers. All of them turned out pretty cute but, my vote goes to Christmas Tree # 2 since it’s so quick to make! I love the sparkles from # 3 and the tiny snowflakes are adorable too. Which one is your favourite?
Christmas Tree 1
Materials & Tools:
- Green fondant
- White fondant
- Green royal icing or edible glue
- Tiny fondant snowflakes
- Christmas tree cookie cutter
- Rolling pin
- Knife
Directions:
Roll out the green fondant and cut out 4 Christmas trees using the cookie cutter.
Trim the trunks off the trees creating a flat base. Using a sharp knife, make a slit halfway down the top of a Christmas tree. Cut the same size slit from the bottom up of another Christmas tree.
Cut the remaining two trees in half as seen below. Let them all dry on a flat surface.
Slot the full pieces together and attach the half tree pieces using green royal icing.
Roll out a thin rope of white fondant and twist it slightly. Attach it to the Christmas tree with royal icing. Attach the tiny snowflakes as well.
Christmas Tree 2
Materials & Tools:
- Green fondant
- White icing
- A pair of nail scissors
- Rainbow nonpareils
Directions:
Start by making a cone shape out of the green fondant.
Then using the scissors start making little cuts into the cone. I started at the bottom but realized later that it would’ve been better to start at the top and work my way down… easier to make the cut outs without messing the snips below.
Pipe some white icing on and attach the rainbow nonpareils.
Christmas Tree 3
Materials & Tools:
- Green fondant
- Clear piping gel
- A pair of nail scissors
- Small veining tool
- White cake sparkles
Directions:
Same as before, start by making a cone shape out of green fondant. Roll out a rope of green fondant and roll it around the cone, starting at the bottom and working your way up.
Using the nail scissors make small cuts and use the small veining tool to indent and bend the leaves a bit as seen in the pictures.
Apply some clear piping gel over and cover the Christmas tree in white cake sparkles.
Christmas Tree 4
Materials & Tools:
- Green fondant
- White icing
- Tiny fondant snowflakes
- Rolling pin
- Knife
Directions:
Make a cone shape out of green fondant. Roll out green fondant and cut the fondant into strips using a sharp knife. I made the strips about ½ inch wide.
Attach the strips with a little water around the cone, starting at the bottom. And no worries if you don’t join the ends of each strip very neatly; when you pipe the decorative string using white icing make sure you cover the edges properly.
Lastly, attach the fondant snowflakes.
